 PARKSLEY -- The Accomack County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday voted
by a narrow margin to continue a gentlemen's agreement of making
appointments by election district to various commissions and boards,
including the planning commission.

Until little more than a century ago hurricanes arrived unannounced, and departed unnamed. The great storm that devastated the Eastern Shore on August 23, 1933 --
75 years ago this Saturday -- was not altogether unannounced, for in
those days the National Weather Service was already issuing storm
warnings.

WALLOPS ISLAND — A suborbital rocket carrying two NASA experiments
costing $11 million was destroyed after it veered off course soon after
liftoff early Friday morning, sending fragments raining into the
